How to Clean Your Dishwasher

Your dishwasher cleans your dishes, but sometimes even it needs a cleaning. Food scraps, grease, and soap scum can slow down performance and can even make it smell bad. Here’s how to perform a routine cleaning to keep your dishwasher running efficiency. Before we get started, please review your owner’s manual. These instructions work for most dishwashers, but in the rare case you find a discrepancy, follow your owner’s manual.

  1. Clean Soils On The Bottom.Empty your dishwasher and remove the bottom rack. Next, remove any visible food from the bottom of the dishwasher.

Wipe Away Food Debris and Clean the Filter

  1. Clean The Filter. If your dishwasher has a filter, remove it and throw away anything trapped inside. Consult your owner’s manual for help.

  2. Wipe Seals. Add a drop of Dawn™ to a damp cloth and wipe down the dishwasher seals and around the bottom.

Wipe the Seals and Clean the Spray Arm

  1. Clean The Spray Arm.  Wipe down the spray arm with a damp cloth. Use a toothpick to unclog the holes in the spinner arm.

  2. Realign The Rack. Make sure the wheels are aligned properly. If the wheels are off track, the rack may block the spray arm from rotating and result in a poor cleaning.

Realign the Rack and Use Cascade Dishwasher Cleaner6. Add Cascade Dishwasher Cleaner. For best results, use a premium dishwasher cleaner and run your empty dishwasher on its longest cycle.

Keep it clean and keep it routine. We recommend cleaning your dishwasher once a month or as needed. Yep, even your dishwasher needs to be washed.
